about

On new EP ‘Falling In An Elevator’, Sydney indie-rock band Sunscreen reckon with a questionable romance through driving guitar riffs and frontwoman Sarah Sykes’ commanding, dynamic voice. Out now via Spunk! Records (AUS/NZ) and written over the course of years, the EP explores romantic idealisation, heartache and self-possession with frank, powerful vulnerability. “All five songs were written at different times when I was undergoing rapid change in my life, and pouring myself into someone else so much that I lost sight of who I was” says Sarah.

Produced by Simon ‘Berkfinger’ Berkelman (Philadelphia Grant Jury, Art Vs Science), and featuring bass player Oliver Ellis, Falling In An Elevator finds the band’s lush, indie-rock sound - which has been likened to The Go-Betweens and Cocteau Twins - informed by a new-found confidence and lucidity. Building upon the immersive, hook-filled songs of their debut EP Just a Drop, they sound more bold and bracing honesty than ever before.

Sunscreen emerged from a casual jam in a sharehouse garage between singer and guitarist Sarah Sykes, guitarist Alexander McDonald and drummer Hugo Levingston. Since then, the band have garnered significant buzz, having performed support slots for DMAs, Jen Cloher and Jack Ladder, as well as receiving radio and video spins on Triple J, ABC’s Rage and American college radio.
